Berwick Trinity Pastoral Charge Funeral Policy
Statement of Purpose and Belief:
Berwick Trinity Pastoral Charge believes that all are equal in the eyes of God.
Following the example of Jesus we open our arms, and doors, to all who grieve the
death of loved ones. We will do our best to accommodate the needs of the family
and provide a service that will help in celebrating the life of their loved one.
Policy Guidelines
In making arrangements and planning for a funeral service at Berwick Trinity United
Church (BTUC) we offer the following guidelines:
● BTUC works collaboratively with the local funeral homes when making
funeral arrangements.
● We consider funerals to be a ministry of the church and therefore there are no
scheduled fees. Honoraria may be given in appreciation of services provided.
● Planning for the service will be done directly with the BTUC minister.
● Services may be held in other locations such as graveside, funeral home.
● Any music used in the service, including solos, will be arranged in
consultation with the minister. Music leadership may be provided by the
BTUC Music Director.
● If families wish to have an outside minister involved in a funeral service,
please discuss this with the minister at BTUC prior to extending the invitation
to the outside minister. The extent of that participation will be determined by
the BTUC minister.
● Due to allergy concerns, we ask that highly scented flowers such as
Easter/White lilies and Stargazer lilies NOT be used in flower arrangements at
BTUC.
● A printed Order of Service may be provided on request..
● If a PowerPoint presentation is wanted in the sanctuary the designing of it is
the family’s responsibility. The family, or designate, will arrange a “trial run” of
any audio/video elements of the service prior to the actual service.
● Reception area is available on the lower level of the church.
● Catering services are available if wanted and are to be arranged with the
United Church Women (UCW).
Administration: This Policy is administered by the Minister, the Spiritual Care &
Outreach Team and the BTUC Council.
